Link Building For Search Engine Optimization

Quality links from other sites to your own website are essential for search engine optimization and have been a determining factor for deciding who gets to the top in the search engine lists.

"Links from other websites to your website are used to determine PageRank. You can use Google Toolbar to check your current PageRank. You can improve your PageRank by exchanging text links with other relevant websites. You can also improve your PageRank by making sure your website is listed with important directories. In other words, check the PageRank of the home page of the directory." - Google

Relevant links are links from sites or pages with related content and (ideally) with link text related to your targeted keywords. Make it clear on your own website that you want links, .ie "If you've found this site useful, please link to us so that others can benefit"

Quality links are unique text links inside body copy, preferably on sites that search engines can trust, eg, old sites with a history of their own quality inbound links.

Link building has two main stages: content creation & promotion. Firstly it is a good idea to create information on your website that others will want to link to, for example useful resources, articles, blogs. Then you need to promote the content for example press releases, newsletters, personal contacts, publish articles on other sites and blogs, and social networking and book marking sites.

  • Linking text that includes your important keywords will give you a bigger search engine boost than if the linking text was just your domain name.
  • You can’t usually control the linking text from external sites but you can influence it.
  • The ability to build good relationships with people is often at the heart of successful link building.

The easiest way to get your site out there is to tell people how you’d like them to link to you. provide a web address and ask people to copy and paste the code into their own web pages. Building contacts and relationships within your industry

One of the most powerful ways of promoting your website on line is through Search engines. Studies have shown that between 40% and 80% of users found what they were looking for by using the search engine feature of the Internet. According to Search Engine Watch – 625 million searches are performed every day! It can be very beneficial especially when launching a new site, to submit your website to various online directories. This will help increase your traffic and increase your standing with Google.
